The editorial team of Élet és Irodalom (Life and Literature) wanted to draw attention to the role and significance of translators, who often work invisibly in the background, performing valuable and important work that significantly contributes to an author's readership and popularity in a given country. They make works written in every language of the world accessible to us in our native tongue at an artistic level. The editorial team sought a partner to realize this intention.
FleishmanHillard provided financial and communication support, bringing four additional agencies into the project as supporters. The collaboration is based on the shared commitment of both ÉS and PR agencies, along with communication professionals, to promoting reading, fostering openness to quality content, and enhancing receptivity.
Following this vision, a literary discussion series launched at Írók Boltja (Writers' Bookstore) in 2024, featuring four sessions with individual translators. ÉS published the article series that emerged from these conversations.
We made it visible that Írók Boltja's literary offerings represent the culture of more than 90 countries and that works available there are translated into Hungarian from at least 30 languages.
Thanks to media coverage and social media reports about the project, the events were held to full capacity and made the work of unjustly marginalized translators visible to a broad audience.
For business stakeholders, marketing and communication professionals, the initiative and collaboration can serve as a model for partnerships supporting the arts, created around shared values.
